The Challenge

Flex Legal works with high-potential aspiring lawyers and Company Secretaries at the start of their careersentering fast-paced, client-facing legal environments.

As AI tools like Microsoft Copilot become more widely available, the challenge was not access - but safe, responsible, and practical adoption.

Flex Legal needed to ensure new joiners:

What Was Delivered

Phase 1) Responsible AI Foundations & Copilot for Lawyers

The programme began with a session focused on responsible AI use in legal environments.

Covering:

How lawyers can safely use AI when supporting legal counsel

The principles of ethical AI, including bias, confidentiality, and accountability

Where human oversight remains critical in legal decision-making

Introduced Microsoft Copilot for lawyers:

Why Copilot is a game-changer for legal work

How Copilot integrates securely within Microsoft 365

Built-in security, privacy, and compliance benefits

Participants explored practical productivity use cases:

Document and contract summarisation

Drafting and refining emails

Automating routine, time-consuming tasks

To support effective adoption, First AI introduced the GCSE Prompting Framework:

Goal, Context, Source, Expectations - giving lawyers a repeatable way to structure high-quality prompts aligned to legal work.

The session also covered top legal and general use cases, including contract review, compliance, due diligence, and client communication.

This ensured graduates developed structured, repeatable prompting habits early.

Phase 2) Deep Dive into Legal Use Cases & Live Demonstrations

The second session moved beyond theory into real legal application.

After recapping Copilot’s core features and the GCSE framework, First AI delivered live demonstrations of Copilot supporting legal tasks such as:

Compliance and regulatory updates
Due diligence and risk assessments
Litigation support
Informing business and commercial decisions

Each demo was paired with example prompts, showing how small changes in context, instruction, and expectations significantly improve output quality.

Phase 3: Hands-On Promptathon & Workflow Application

The programme concluded with an interactive Promptathon; a hands-on workshop designed to embed learning into day-to-day work.

Participants worked in groups to:

Identify workflows that were most “Copilot-ready”
Experiment with using Copilot in a mock environment
